Minneapolis is the new New York
For many years now, New York has been the hub of the advertising world. All the big shops are here, and they expect the best talent. In reality though, New York living, in the Advertising industry anyways, is not all it’s cracked up to be. New York is like the bratty kids in high school who’s dads own car dealerships: everyone hangs out with them because they throw the best parties, but really they can be pretty annoying. Not to say that New York isn’t a wonderful city, much to the contrary. New York offers action, excitement, and prestige, but at a price. The cost of living in New York is exorbitant, but the salaries do not quite match up. With the same position, someone could rent a 500 sq. ft apartment in NYC, or own a mansion in a lovely city like Fort Wayne, IN. There are a ton of hidden little markets out there with great agencies, where the average advertising pro can live like Donald Trump. Yea, maybe the most exciting event in the town is the Annual Corn Harvesting Festival, but hey, it wouldn’t be too bad to be crowned King Corn. Corn is totally awesome.

Speaking from Mpls, I agree with all the things you said about New York.
But, truly exciting things are happening here. And the corn thing, that’s Iowa.
