Patience is Priceless
Because patience isn’t easy, it makes it worth more…
I know my last blog was tinged a bit with hostility, but today’s is different because I am in great spirits. This morning, as I was emptying out my sweater bag for the winter, I found my favorite t-shirt I thought I had lost months ago. I just got a second computer monitor so I get to watch Heroes as I write this. And, I just found out that a creative I have been talking to since my first week on the job was just offered an interview.
*Side note, look at what happens when one works too hard in advertising by clicking on this link.*
This creative, gifted, up-and-coming Art Director/Designer, has been hunting for a job for about nine months. For so many different circumstances she could not connect with any suitable job. She wasn’t even being picky, it just seemed that the fates were against her when it came to getting work.
In lieu of shopping for a job from the less than populous area she lived in, she embraced the “manifest destiny†attitude that seems to be prevalent in today’s creative advertisers, and moved to Seattle. Since then, she has been freelancing at a variety of shops and beating the street with her book and drive to grow her career.
I have just recently been placed in charge of West Coast Recruiting, and when a job order came in that looked like it would fit her I was pumped. When she moved, I was still a Jr Recruiter, and I thought I would not be able to help her; now the fact that I am making forward progress makes my day. I am confident that she will nail this interview.

It is no secret that we work FOR the Agencies, NOT the Candidates; but, since I came in I have made it a point to be as fair and honest to as many candidates as I could because these are peoples’ lives that I am dealing with, and I have to consider that in every action. Often, many candidates fall by the wayside for a million different reasons, but when it works out that a relationship you have cultivated and a trust you have earned finally pays off, it is worth more than any commission check… well, almost, because I do have bills to pay.
Oh yeah, and Transformers comes out today on DVD. What a good day…
