Sometimes the Shoe Just Doesn’t Fit…
…and you have to know when to part ways and leave it on shelf. This is definitely easier said than done, but on the flip-side, a lot of time and energy can be saved along with keeping your candidate from wearing out their welcome. When you have a great candidate and your client recognizes that they are truly dealing with the industry’s best (like a pair of Manolo’s), it is easy to get hung up on trying to find the right fit.
Before you know it, your candidate is on their 4th interview for another newly created opportunity with the same agency. It is important that we give it our all to close the deal but we also have to recognize when the opportunities at hand just might not be the right one for our candidate for various reasons (the account, salary, timing, etc). It is better to save face now and part ways; versus pushing forward and ending up with a declined offer or better yet, having to replace the candidate in 30 days because things just didn’t work out. Our job is to make placements, but those placements shouldn’t come back to haunt us…no one likes wearing a shoe that doesn’t fit, especially if it is too small. Ouch!
