When Candidates Attack

The rare and beautiful species of the qualified candidate can also be a volatile predator. When in the safety of their job nest they are jovial, upbeat, and creative. They prey on new advertising positions, stalking, watching, learning. However, if that prey is removed from their grasp, even if it’s their own heavy footsteps that alarm it, they will attack. My most recent encounter with one of these enraged beasts happened while on safari in search of the elusive Flash Developer. I spotted one who, at first glace, seemed to be the perfect specimen. So, I dangled the prey. He approached and sniffed it then judged it to be something worthy of his effort and attention. This creature came from another part of the jungle called “in-house”. The prey knew that species from that side of the jungle weren’t used to moving as quickly nor did they necessarily have the same survival tactics. So, the prey tested the Flash Developer. He was given a “banner” to complete in one day, if done the prey would surrender itself to the Developer knowing it was destiny to do so.

A week went by. The Developer was frustrated and confused. The banner was incomplete. The prey was disappointed knowing that the right candidate would have been able to complete the task. The Developer was informed that his efforts, that were noticeably minimal, had been unsuccessful. There was no direct mention of the candidates’ laziness or his inability to perform the tasks that should have been second nature. He was just not the one and told that he was not ready yet for the intense agency side of the forest because of the slow turn around. The candidate became defensive. He attacked the prey and myself, the bystander. He directly berated the agency for insulting his intelligence saying he could learn what he didn’t already know and myself for “misspeaking” because, “How could they think he was not the one?”

It didn’t stop there. Another member of his pack, his brother was now on the defensive. I had never seen or heard from this beast before but it was surely more aggressive than the first. His rage derived from the fact that his brother was informed, after his initial attack on the agency, that he was no longer permitted to enter the domain or contact the wise prey he had slighted. This was via their request. The more aggressive beast that had all kinds of inappropriate attack moves in his vocabulary and felt his candidate brother had every right to question the agency and their decision making. Due to these unprecedented attacks directed at both myself and the agency, my flash developer mission was utterly destroyed. There was unrest, though only momentary, concerning my choice in which candidates to document in my discoveries. My Job Safari associates will NEVER be willing to deal with this kind of behavior and you will be entered as a “dangerous species” into our database. Hopefully to one day go from dangerous to endangered.
