Age/Sex/Location

As a Recruiter, most of the relationships I develop are via the phone and through email. There are times when I spend an hour of my day talking to a candidate about everything from prior work experience to lighter topics such as their children’s hobbies or our mutual distain for the freecreditreport.com commercials. However, don’t let the mantras of those late night chat lines and/or anonymous chatrooms fool you. Sometimes when you think you are talking to a charming yet promiscuous twenty-something girl you are really talking to an obese, 60 year old with youthful sounding vocal cords. Well, this…

It’s not THAT funny

A lot of creatives seem to believe that the line between seeming juvenile, incompetent, or even certifiably insane and seeming smart, funny, and creative is much thinner than it is in actuality. I get that many of you out there pride yourselves on your witty banter and unique brand of humor but often it’s best to save those gems for after you sign the offer letter. And I’m not just talking about the obvious because that would make the proverbial line I speak of rather thin now wouldn’t it?

Scheduling…and Re-Scheduling…

Role play here with me for a minute. Let’s pretend that I’m your doctor. You called me and said you have a sore throat and a fever. Naturally, I schedule you to come in at my first possible opening – lets pretend it’s sometime on Friday. Well, I would imagine you’d be surprised if I called you on Friday, two hours before your aforementioned appointment and said I had to reschedule because I have a more important appointment. But, you think, ok fine. You reschedule for my next open appointment on Monday. So on Monday you’re practically bleeding from the…

The little details count

Now I’m not trying to stay on a politics kick but sometimes there are just interesting stories that revolve around it. Especially since it’s an election year all eyes are on the candidates and their staff. It’s a historical year for politics. Not only is there a black man running for president but there is a woman running for vice president. It’s great. Anyways, you have to wonder what runs through Obama’s head when anyone from his campaign team starts blowing up his phone. I’m sure it happened when Ludacris wrote his support Obama song, Obama is here. But just…

So You Think You Don’t Need the Practice. Really?

I do it every year. I wait and wait for that one glorious Sunday night. Some years I’ll invite some friends over and make swanky pink cocktails, and other years I’ll opt to snuggle up in my jammies and pop some popcorn. Either way, I count down the minutes until…you guessed it…the Academy Awards (you can sub in the MTV Video Awards or the Soapies…whatever floats your boat)! I watch in wonderment as people like Brad, Angelina, Meryl and the occasional Pauly Shore walk down the red carpet, wave at their adoring fans and try not to squint when 8,000…
